The Shattered Lands
The Shattered Lands is a frontier fantasy setting centered on the Drift, a realm of floating islands newly made accessible through one-way portals.
It is a place of unstable routes, limited support, dangerous opportunity, and incomplete knowledge. No one entering the Drift does so with the expectation of safety or certainty. Every expedition is a gamble made in exchange for survival, profit, discovery, or ambition.
What This Setting Is About
At its core, The Shattered Lands is about:
- exploration into the unknown
- survival under pressure
- unstable geography and shifting access
- expedition logistics and hard choices
- bringing back resources, maps, and knowledge
- building a foothold in a world that does not easily yield to control
What Players Can Expect
Characters in this setting are pioneers, contractors, scouts, salvagers, guards, researchers, or other expedition personnel operating on the frontier.
They will:
- travel into dangerous and partially unmapped regions
- face environmental hazards, hostile creatures, and limited supplies
- discover ruins, resources, and unexplained phenomena
- return from expeditions with information that can change what the settlement knows and what future teams can attempt
The Core Premise
The Drift has only recently become accessible.
Living beings can cross into it, but they cannot return to the origin world. Non-living materials can be sent back through the portal in limited quantities, making the Drift both a place of exile and a place of immense opportunity.
That tension defines the setting. The same expedition may be driven by necessity, greed, duty, fear, or wonder.
